There's a lot of money in golf at the moment.

Whether it's rebel golfers signing up with LIV, PGA Tour stars reaping the rewards of its responses to the renegade circuit, or even DP World Tour stalwarts having annual prize funds bigger than in its entire history.

Purses are also increasing in the women's game, too, with the USGA and R&A keen to show that their showpiece events are treating the two sexes equally (or more equally than in the past).

But what about a comparison between the two most important tours in world golf?

The PGA Tour is top dog in the men's game and the LPGA is its equivalent in the women's game.

Let's take a look at how the 2024 earnings compare.

The winners

Put very simply, Scottie Scheffler won an enormous amount of money last year. He topped the PGA Tour money list with a total of $29.2 million.

That left him well clear of Xander Schauffele in second on $18.3 million.

In contrast, Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul, who won the LPGA Tour money list, banked $6 million and second placed Nelly Korda cashed $4.3 million.

Where would the top women finish on the PGA Tour rankings?

Thitikul's total would place her 15th on the 2024 PGA Tour money list.

Korda's tally would rank her much lower at 39th.

PGA Tour average

In the middle of the 2024 PGA Tour money list is a figure attached to no golfer.

It is the tour average and it is $2.1 million.

Where would that figure place on the LPGA?

It would be 11th.

How many golfers on both tours won $1 million in 2024?

On the PGA Tour there were many million dollar earners.

A total of 137 in fact.

And what about on the LPGA?

Overall, 34 golfers hit that mark.

Comparing different rankings

Let's drift down the money list.

Sungjae Im ranked 10th on the PGA and won $6.2 million. Lauren Coughlin was 10th on the LPGA and won $2 million (32%).

What about 20th? On the men's tour that was Matthieu Pavon who banked $5.2 million and on the women's it was Andrea Lee who cashed $1.2 million (23%).

Let's slip down to 50th. On the PGA that's Matt Fitzpatrick who earned $3.7 million while on the LPGA it was Lexi Thompson on $811,000 (22%).

Now let's try 100th. Daniel Berger for the men totalled $1.6 million, Frida Kinhult for the women tallied $209,000 (13%).
