A big moment in the sport came this week that may some substantial changes in 2025 and 2026 in professional boxing.
Game changer Saudi advisor Turki Alalshikh and UFC boss Dana White confirmed their new UFC of boxing league and promotion.
Then Turki Alalshikh at the Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull press conference rejected the WBC belt being in the photo ops, only the fatal Fury one and the Ring Magazine belts granted photo ops for Canelo.
That caused many to question what the future of the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF exactly will be, organizations that charge boxers large amounts of money in sanctioning fees for world title fights.
Now, per Boxing Kingdom on X the many of the WBC’s champions have come out in support of the World Boxing Council on various social media platforms.
The WBC out of any organization have done tremendous work in the sport over the last 30 years and it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out and plays out.
It doesn’t seem likely that the WBC are going anywhere as recently their boss from Mexico was in Saudi Arabia with Turki Alalshikh and were amicable and on good terms.
Let’s see what happens. 2025 and 2026, and beyond, will be big for boxing.
