WWE Tribal Chief Championship or Ula Fala? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
Yesterday, WrestleVotes mentioned that WWE was discussing the concept of a Tribal Chief Championship to toss into the mix for the feud between Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa, akin to how The Rock brought in that People’s Championship belt for the build to WrestleMania XL.
My question for you today is “Do you think this is a good idea, or not? If so, how would you implement it, what design would you give it, etc? But if not, why?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
Absolutely, 100%, this shouldn’t happen, for so many reasons.
Even if they wanted to do it, they would have to get it conceptualized and created before January 6th. You can’t have this title presented several weeks later after this match between Roman and Solo and have it mean anything, because…
What do you do with the belt AFTER this? It’s only a personal feud for leadership of The Anoa’i Family. Roman and Solo can’t (or at least, shouldn’t, as it is completely illogical) defend it against someone like LA Knight or Gunther or whoever. Even something like the Million Dollar Championship isn’t as personalized as this, and could be passed around.
Plus, isn’t this the whole purpose of the ula fala?? You know, the prop item that is used as a symbol to denote that person has been designated with a position of power and leadership over others…like a title belt signifying they’re the top of that roster…
WWE has spent too much time building up that specific thing as THE symbol, that if they were to create a Tribal Chief Championship, wouldn’t they just incorporate that into the design and make it a red title belt with that kind of pattern anyway? What would be the purpose, other than to make it a marketable item they can sell on WWE Shop that can be personalized as a WWE version of that thing, since the concept itself can’t just be stolen from them in that regard.
That may be their very reasoning for it—and for a business, money-making ventures are always the driving force—but they didn’t sell copies of the Peoples’ Championship title, so why would they sell this? Also, it would open them up to criticism of cultural appropriation when you’d see people who aren’t Samoan buying and holding their replica belts.
Speaking of the Peoples’ Championship, by the way, that was a rather stupid idea to begin with as well, and I’d imagine it was entirely just so The Rock could stand there with a belt on his shoulder. But WWE also, mind you, has a weird situation going on where they’ve never fully unified the WWE Championship and Universal Championship yet, either! It may seem like they have, since Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes have been just holding the one title belt, but if you go to WWE’s Superstars page, you can see that Cody is still listed as both, and the tally for the Universal Championship keeps counting. Maybe sort that out before you toss in another title for no reason.
I don’t fault WWE Creative for having this kind of discussion. They should pitch ideas back and forth and bounce concepts around. Sometimes, a bad idea can spawn a great one. But this is a perfect example of something that may sound good on paper for a brief moment, but once you start thinking about it for more than a few seconds, you can see all the flaws.
What do you think? Drop your thoughts below!
