Change To AEW Grand Slam: Darby Allin Will Defend Title Shot Against Jon Moxley

There’s been a change to the card for AEW Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday, September 2th. Originally, it was scheduled that Darby Allin would receive a title shot for the AEW World Championship, having won the Royal Rampage match in July. However, on tonight’s edition of AEW Dynamite (September 11th), an alteration to those plans was put in place.

Having been called out last week by Jon Moxley, Darby Allin took to the ring to do the same, cutting a promo to Moxley’s face about how he was his hero that he looked up to. Allin praised Moxley’s passion for the industry and his devotion to the independent scene, before saying that he no longer looks up to Moxley after what he did to Bryan Danielson at AEW All Out.

Moxley remained vague about his recent actions, telling Allin he doesn’t have time to explain everything to him, but requested that Allin rescind his title opportunity and give it to him outright. Allin naturally refused, instead demanding that Moxley earn that if he wants it so bad. This prompted Moxley to then make the challenge that Allin should put the title shot on the line at AEW Grand Slam, rather than fighting for the title then.

Allin accepted, saying if Moxley wants to burn AEW to the ground, he will pull him into the fire.

Update: Later in the night, it was also announced that Nigel McGuinness has put out a challenge to face Bryan Danielson instead, which has yet to be accepted, but is being advertised.

• AEW World Championship No. 1 Contender’s Match: Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley
• Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness — not fully confirmed
• AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Young Bucks (c) vs. Will Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher
