Tony Khan's AEW Dynasty Media Call Highlights (4/3/25)

Tony Khan began by expressing his excitement for AEW Dynasty.

When Jon Alba asked about a report claiming AEW content on Max averages around 500,000 viewers per week, Khan said he was pleased with the report. He mentioned that while he doesn't get weekly updates and the numbers are kept confidential, he's been told the show is performing very well and is one of the top-streamed sports programs on Max.

Courtney Rice brought up the women's matches at Dynasty. Khan talked about Toni Storm vs. Megan Bayne for the AEW Women's Championship, describing it as a "monster movie" showdown between Storm, AEW's leading lady, and the dominant Bayne. He also mentioned Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart in the Owen Hart Cup tournament and promoted a women's tag team match set for Collision.

Alex Hunt asked if Tony Khan would allow Sting to appear at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, as Lex Luger had expressed interest in seeing him there. Khan said he's not sure, as the topic didn't come up during his last conversation with Sting, and his focus right now is on Dynasty.

Dominic DeAngelo asked about the spike bat spot during the match between Jon Moxley and Adam Copeland. Khan called the match a big success and said the moment was a hardcore risk that paid off, as the video has been viewed millions of times across platforms. He added that Moxley returned to the ring last night and will be wrestling again at Dynasty.

Andrew Baydala asked if AEW will continue to focus on violent matches. Tony Khan said yes, noting that AEW has delivered some of the best hardcore matches over the past six years and plans to keep that going. He added that fans enjoy it and he personally grew up watching that style of wrestling.

Jim Varsallone brought up the shift from three weekly TV shows to two. Khan said their media rights deal is structured well and has brought in extra revenue, which has helped AEW grow as a business.

Arunava Ghoshal asked about the possibility of intergender matches. Khan said AEW has done some strong mixed tag matches when the story called for it. He mentioned the recent mixed tornado tag on Dynamite as something different for the fans.

Samantha Shipman asked if women main-eventing Dynamite and Collision is part of a larger plan and if it will continue. Khan praised the women's matches and gave the impression that it's something they'll keep doing.

Bill Pritchard asked about Chris Jericho vs. Bandido and whether it will be on the Dynasty card. Khan said Jericho issued a title vs. mask challenge, but the match hasn't been officially announced. He noted there's still one more Collision episode before Dynasty and he hopes Bandido will respond when the moment feels right.

Ella Jay asked if Athena will be appearing more on AEW television. Tony Khan said he's looking forward to seeing how the tournament unfolds.

When asked about the possibility of AEW Collision moving to Thursdays after Warner Bros. Discovery's NBA deal ends, Khan said he's happy with how Collision is performing on Saturdays. He pointed out that the show has done well, especially when airing after major sports events. He added that the network is giving them strong support both on Saturdays and through streaming. While he’s open to changes if the network believes it makes sense, he said they have great momentum on Saturdays and he’s thankful for WBD's continued support.

Eli Phipps asked if AEW might bring first-run content to Amazon now that its pay-per-views are available there. Khan said their main focus is still their relationship with WBD, but he praised Amazon as a pay-per-view partner. He said any new content discussions would start with WBD and their CEO David Zaslav, though adding new content in the future could be a possibility.
