Ric Flair has seemingly confirmed he is still employed by AEW during a spat with Vince Russo.
The former WWE Champion joined AEW in 2023, in a bid to promote his Wooooo Energy drink. However, he hasn’t appeared for the company since eating a superkick during Sting’s last match at AEW Revolution 2024.
Following AEW Revolution last year, it was reported that Ric Flair and AEW have parted ways. However, the 16-time World Champion has seemingly confirmed that not to be the case, revealing he still works for the promotion.
Vince Russo claimed that Ric Flair was trying to angle his way into being involved in the main event of WrestleMania. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer took offence to this remark and Tweeted at the former WCW Champion.
Ric Flair said that the pair agreed Russo would not use his name to spark interest in his podcast online. However, the interesting part was Flair admitting he works for Tony Khan. He said he allows him to be in attendance for WWE events while signed to AEW.
This seemingly confirmed that Ric Flair is still employed by AEW a year after making his last appearance.
“Please @THEVinceRusso , I Thought We Agreed That You Wouldn't Use My Name To Get A Rating! I Work For My GREAT Friend And Employer @TonyKhan , Who Allows Me To Do Things With My Daughter And Understands The Importance Of Me Being In Attendance At Events Like The Hall Of Fame!” Ric Flair said.
Ric Flair called out John Cena for coming after his world title reign record
Regardless of where he works, Ric Flair called out John Cena and teased coming to Cody Rhodes' aid at WrestleMania. Cena won the Men's Elimination Chamber to earn a shot at Cody Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber. He then turned heel and sided with The Rock in the shocking conclusion of the show.
In a tweet, Ric Flair responded to John Cena's heel turn. He highlighted how it had been 25 years since he won his last world title. Flair then called Cena out and said that he loved and respected Cena, but the newly-turned heel wouldn't be taking anything from Cody Rhodes. Flair said that if he had to fight his way through security to hit the ring, he would. He also said that he'd take the day off of blood thinners. Flair ended the message by saying, "Let's do this."
Flair and Cena are tied for the record with 16 world title wins. "The Nature Boy" has commented on the possibility of Cena potentially breaking the record. Flair, 76, has not wrestled since he had his last match in 2022, though he has occasionally teased lacing up his boots again. However, he recently stated that he would not be returning to the ring.
