She did it. There are all kinds of records in wrestling and some of them can be rather longstanding. Many of the most interesting involve the longest reign in a championship’s history, which can take a very long to break. That appears to be the case again, but this time a title reign is not just the longest in the history of the title, but in the entire promotion as well.

As of Sunday, Athena’s Ring Of Honor Women’s Title reign has lasted 646 days, setting a new record for the longest title reign in the history of the promotion. Athena’s reign surpasses Samoa Joe’s time as World Champion, which ran for 645 days from March 2003 – December 2004. Athena defeated Mercedes Martinez at Final Battle 2022 to win the championship.

Opinion: This is a weird situation as yes Athena did break the record and is the longest reigning champion in Ring Of Honor history, but it’s not exactly the same Ring Of Honor. The title is not defended as frequently these days due to the nature of the promotion’s events, but at the end of the day, no one has ever done what Athena has accomplished. That is worthy of some praise, and that is what she is receiving.
What do you think of the record? Who should take the title from Athena? Let us know in the comments below.
