Joe Pyfer faced some early adversity but immediately turned the tables on Abus Magomedov to earn a submission in in the second round to kick off the UFC 320 main card.

Best known for his knockout power, Pyfer delivered with a punch that sent Magomedov crashing to the canvas but rather than finish with strikes, he opted to turn to his grappling attack instead. Pyfer eventually advanced to take Magomedov's back where he locked on the fight finishing rear-naked choke to get the tap at 1:44 in the second round.

"The game plan was to move but I felt completely fine tonight," Pyfer said about his performance. "I shot, he beat my ass the first round, we knew he was going to get tired and then we made our move. They all said when he starts to get tired, you're going to hear that shit.

"I know I say some controversial shit, I love this country. That's what I'm about."

As the action got started, Pyfer actually ducked under and went for a takedown but Magomedov immediately reversed to get on top. With Pyfer playing defense and looking for submissions, Magomedov stayed on the attack and nearly took the back before taking the fight back to the canvas.

Magomedov immediately grabbed onto a kimura but Pyfer was able to break free but he was still stuck on the bottom. Pyfer eventually scrambled free but he wasn't able to mount much damage despite stalking Magomedov across the cage.

On the restart in round two, Pyfer immediately came after Magomedov and he connected with a huge shot that scored a knockdown. Pyfer followed him to the ground where he began unloading punches before advancing to grab the arm triangle choke.

For a moment it looked like Magomedov was done but he continued to battle out of the bad position until Pyfer was forced to change his approach. From there, Pyfer took the back and that's where he locked on the rear-naked choke.

This time there was no escape for Magomedov as he was forced to tap out with Pyfer getting the submission win.

An impressive performance from Pyfer as he weathered an early storm and then took out Magomedov in the second round to notch his third win in a row overall. His latest win might get Pyfer another opportunity at a ranked opponent, especially after a showing like that on a pay-per-view main card.
