The undercard fighters competing on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford event are all eligible to earn some extra cash on Saturday night.
On Friday, UFC CEO Dana White announced plans for a Performance of the Night and a Fight of the Night bonus being made available exclusively for the undercard fighters with his business partner Turki Alalshikh handing out $100,000 for each award.
"So on the undercard fights — Canelo and Crawford are going to do just fine on Saturday night, they're going to be OK — but on the undercard fights, we're going to have a Performance of the Night and a Fight of the Night," White revealed on the Stephen A. Smith Show. "$100,000 each for the fighters on the undercard from Sheik Turki.
"So you can be involved in the Performance of the Night and the Fight of the Night and take home $200,000 for these undercard fighters."
That's a slightly different setup from UFC cards where the promotion hands out two Performance of the Night bonuses along with a Fight of the Night bonus but everybody competing has a chance to claim that prize.
Instead, these $100,000 bonuses are only eligible for the undercard fighters with Canelo and Crawford obviously earning bigger paydays overall, which means they won't get a part of this particular reward.
There are nine total undercard fights happening on Saturday with Callum Walsh, who White has personally promoted and hyped in recent years, taking on Fernando Vargas Jr. in the co-main event.
Based on White's statement, all of the fighters minus Canelo and Crawford are eligible for the bonuses coming from Alalshikh.
