Conor McGregor vowed to appeal the result of a civil sexual assault lawsuit against him last year, and the UFC star reportedly has taken the first step.

Last November, a 12-day trial in Dublin concluded with an Irish jury finding McGregor liable for assaulting Nikita Hand, who claimed McGregor raped her after a night of partying in December 2018. The jury's verdict included damages of approximately $250,000 awarded to Hand.

According to the BBC, McGregor filed an appeal of the jury’s decision last Friday.

In addition to damages, a judge later ruled that McGregor must pay Hand’s legal fees from pursuit of her claim against.

In the immediate aftermath of the verdict, McGregor was dropped by Proper Twelve-parent company Proximo Spirits as a pitchman for the Irish whiskey brand.  IO Interactive, the parent company for the popular video game series "Hitman," also announced McGregor would no longer be a purchasable character in its game.

In the months since being found liable for assault, McGregor has maintained his innocence while speaking out against Hand and the jury’s decision in several social media rants.

McGregor is also facing another civil lawsuit filmed by a Jane Doe for sexual misconduct stemming from an alleged incident at a 2023 NBA Finals game hosted by the Miami Heat. That case was filed last month in U.S. District Court in Southern District of Florida Miami Division for sexual battery.
