Throughout its 30 years of existence, there have been some incredible fights inside the UFC Octagon but there have also been several that will be pushed to the back of people’s memories because of how bad they were.
The early days of the UFC were pretty well known for producing some of the most insane fights in combat sports and that is because the sport was still in its infancy and there weren’t many rules.
Despite that, since MMA has entered the mainstream, fights have become more technical and high level which, unfortunately, occasionally leads to some boring fights.
Michael Bisping reveals the most boring fight in UFC history
Former UFC middleweight champion and pioneer of UK MMA, Michael Bisping, has been involved in some absolute blockbuster fights, becoming a big fan favorite because of his all-action fight style.
Now turned UFC commentator, the Brit has been in the commentary booth for what are regarded as some of the most boring fights in the promotion’s illustrious history.
Even some of the most exciting fighters in the sport, like Israel Adesanya and Francis Ngannou, have been involved in some utterly unforgettable fights, but Bisping has revealed which fight he thinks takes the cake for the worst in UFC history.
“I mean this with the greatest of respect because these two ladies are tremendous fighters, I’m talking about Rose Namajunas, ‘Thug’ Rose vs Carla Esparza,” Bisping revealed in a video on his YouTube channel.
“Coming into this one, Rose Namajunas was the champion of the world and she’d done some incredible things, she’d beaten Joanna Jedrzejczyk, the long-time champion, and knocked her out in round one… I was like ‘Oh my god, no one is ever gonna beat this woman’.
“Over five rounds of action, all we saw was 67 strikes landed between the two of them, two absolutely world-class fighters over five rounds, 67 strikes, not a lot of action,” Bisping continued.
At the time, the fight between Rose Namajunas and Esparza at UFC 274 was heavily criticized by the fanbase and Namajunas even admitted a few years later that it was ‘definitely one of the most boring fights ever’.
Other fights that are considered some of the worst UFC fights ever
Although that fight is widely regarded as the worst of all time, there are a few others that come to mind when the topic is brought into conversation.
The aforementioned Adesanya was involved in one of the most disappointing fights ever against the terrifying Yoel Romero at UFC 248 in 2020.
Going into the fight, the fans were excited about the explosiveness of Romero and the rapid counter-striking from Adesanya, however, because of how tentative both fighters were, only 88 strikes were landed over the five rounds.
Francis Ngannou’s UFC 226 loss against Derrick Lewis will also go down as one of the worst fights in the history of the sport, especially considering both fighter’s tendencies to score vicious knockouts.
