Former light heavyweight title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr. was slated to face former champion Jamahal Hill in the UFC Kansas City main event on April 26, but an injury forced Hill out of the fight.
The fight promotion made the announcement on Tuesday and revealed a new main event for the fight card. Welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry will take on the red hot Carlos Prates in the new headliner.
Rountree reacted to the news of Hill's injury and losing the UFC Kansas City main event spot in a video posted to his YouTube channel.
"So, I just got off the phone with the UFC, and it appears that Jamahal Hill is injured, not able to fight in Kansas City on the 26th of April," Rountree Jr. said in the video. "So, looks like I'm out of a fight, and it's going to be postponed. I don't know when, but it looks like that's the case so far.
"I have no idea what the issue is. All I know is that UFC told me that he had to pull out due to an injury. Usually they don't give too many details as to what the injury is or whatever, but they did tell me that it was an injury and that he needed more time to recover from this injury, which is why they're going to postpone the fight."
Rountree Jr. fought for the 205-pound championship against then-champion Alex Pereira in his last fight. He was stopped late in the fourth frame and was hoping to rebound against the former champion Hill.
