Ian Garry books return, set to fight Carlos Prates in new UFC Kansas City headliner this month

Irish welterweight contender, Ian Garry is set for his first outing of this year, booking an impromptu main event fight against the surging Brazilian finisher, Carlos Prates in a new headliner at UFC Kansas City on April 26. from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Garry, the current number seven ranked welterweight contender, was handed his first professional loss back in December, when he took on the fellow undefeated, Shavkat Rakhmonov in a short-notice title eliminator at UFC 310.

And coming unstuck over the course of five rounds in a competitive back-and-forth with the Kazakh striker, Garry saw his 15-fight unbeaten run in combat sports come to an end.

Himself initially scheduled to fight against Geoff Neal next weekend, surging contender, Prates saw his pairing with the Texan scrapped from UFC 314 in Miami, after the former withdrew due to injury.

And as per UFC CEO, Dana White tonight, Portmarnock native, Garry will feature in his first main event outing in the promotion, taking on Prates in a reworked UFC Kansas City headliner.

Initially, a potential light heavyweight title-eliminator between former titleholder, Jamahal Hill, and one-time title challenger, Khalil Rountree was scheduled to take main event honors in Missouri, until the former was ruled from the painting citing an injury setback.

During his impressive Octagon tenure, Dublin striker, Garry had rattled off an impressive series of consecutive victories over the likes of Michael Page, Geoff Neal, Neil Magny, Daniel Rodriguez, and Song Kenan to name a few.

As for Contender Series product, Prates, the Fighting Nerds staple has made light work of each and every one of his foes during his brief run in the Octagon-proper.

Last time out, the Sao Paulo knockout ace stopped common-foe, Magny with a thunderous opening round knockout win in their main event clash back in November of last year.
