Justin Gaethje confesses that being knocked out cold again could make him retire

Renowned for his relentless will to win and thunderous leg kicks, Justin Gaethje has sealed his legacy in stone, taking out some of the best names in the lightweight division en route to rendering Dustin Poirier unconscious to win the BMF title.

However, while that explosive head kick was nothing short of sensational, the American really made his mark with his incredible wars of attrition.

From his back-and-forth clash with Michael Johnson, to his amazing battle with Eddie Alvarez, win, lose, or draw, Gaethje is renowned for showcasing unrivaled heart in fights that have written their place in UFC folklore.

In his last outing at UFC 300, he delivered yet another tremendous spectacle in a losing effort against Max Holloway.

The two sporting titans made history, exchanging vicious blows as the fans in attendance watched in awe.

Alas, it was Gaethje, who had to take the loss after being knocked out with just one second left on the clock as the pair agreed to trade blows in the center of the cage.

Realizing that he doesn’t want to make a habit of losing in that manner, the fighter has confessed that should that happen again, he’ll call time on his career.

He told MMA Fighting: “Once I know that I cannot win an undisputed championship belt or fight for one, then I might as well hang up the gloves. I do not believe I have reached that point. Whether I'm the champion or not in the next – Who knows? It's so hard to predict.

"If I ever go to sleep, like I just went to sleep, I'm done. I'm not doing it two more times. I'll do that one more time if I have to, I'm not choosing that, but it's always a possibility, and if it happens, I'm done. But outside that, I don't know, it's hard to put a number."

Justin Gaethje calls for Dustin Poirier trilogy

With his fire to fight still burning bright, Gaethje has called out Poirier for a third and final showdown.

The first two match-ups were nothing short of scintillating, with each man claiming a victory, which ultimately leaves the score unsettled.

Acknowledging his rival’s desire for a trilogy, ‘The Diamond’ has given his response.
