The world of crossover boxing between MMA fighters and boxers, and now even YouTubers has grown into a huge part of the sport.

Crossover fighting has became a huge part of combat sports over the past few years, with there being several figures responsible for the craze rising in popularity.

YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul is one of the most notorious names that springs to mind when the topic of crossover fighting is being discussed, as is his brother, Logan Paul.

More recently, Paul was in talks to fight Conor McGregor in the boxing ring, continuing the trend of crossover fighting, however, talks for that fight fizzled out.

However, the first major crossover fight to take place was in 2017 when Conor McGregor entered the boxing world to take on one of the sports biggest stars of all time, Floyd Mayweather.

When the two agreed to fight each other eight years ago, little did everyone know the combat sports world was going to change forever.

The historic bout generated over 4.3 million domestic pay-per-view buys and over $600 million was generated in total revenue, making it one of the most lucrative combat sports fights of all time.

Despite the fact that ‘Money’ Mayweather has been involved in some of the biggest fights in boxing history, he believes it was his fight against ‘The Notorious’ McGregor that really ‘broke the mold.’

“Me and Canelo (Alvarez) were able to lock up and do record breaking numbers and I think the Conor McGregor fight was good when we really broke the mold,” Mayweather told Brian Mazique.

“We said, you know what, MMA and boxing really can come together and that opened up the floodgates for the YouTubers and everybody to get involved in the sport of boxing,” he continued.

Mayweather’s fight against McGregor was the final fight of his professional boxing career but following that, the 47-year-old continued showing his talents in the ring with exhibition bouts.

A year after his fight against the Irishman, Mayweather boxed kickboxing star, Tenshin Nasukawa on New Years Eve, in Japan.

Three years later, Mayweather stepped into the ring with internet star, Logan Paul, for another exhibition bout that likely made an obscene amount of money.

Since his fight against ‘The Maverick’ he has fought four more times and shows no signs of slowing down as he continues to fly the flag for crossover fighting.
