Following his light heavyweight title loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, Alex Pereira was targeted by his ex-girlfriend.
On Saturday at UFC 313, Alex Pereira attempted to defend his light heavyweight title for a fourth time, looking to break a record set by Jon Jones when he faced off against Magomed Ankalaev.
Unfortunately for the Brazilian, he was dethroned by Ankalaev who outpointed him over five rounds to become the new 205lb champion.
Pereira received some criticism for his ‘uncharacteristic’ performance, from UFC commentator, Joe Rogan, due to the fact that ‘Poatan’ was relatively out struck for five rounds.

If losing his title wasn’t bad enough, the 37-year-old was then targeted by his ex-girlfriend, Merle Christine.
Taking to social media, Pereira’s ex-girlfriend celebrated his loss, claiming it was ‘karma’ that he lost his title.
“We have a new light heavyweight champion. No more Chama, karma. He lost on International Women’s Day, maybe that’s a sign, guys. New light heavyweight champion, Ankalaev, congratulations,” she said in a video on her Instagram.
“He did a really good job, if you guys are calling ‘robbery’, you don’t understand anything from MMA, so let’s not talk about ‘robbery’, that’s completely bulls—… No more Chama!” she continued.
A similar situation happened in the boxing world at the end of last year when Dmitry Bivol‘s ex-wife celebrated his loss to Artur Beterbiev.
However, Pereira wasn’t impressed when he found out about his ex-girlfriend celebrating his downfall and issued a response.
“I think she should stop mentioning my name because her husband might get jealous, chama,” Pereira commented on the video that went viral.
What’s next for Alex Pereira following title loss?
Ahead of his fourth title defense, rumors were circulating that ‘Poatan’ could move up to the heavyweight division to take on the winner of Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall, however, that is now extremely unlikely.
Despite that, following the event on Saturday night, UFC boss, Dana White stated that an immediate rematch between Ankalaev and Pereira is likely.
And with that, Ankalaev welcomed that challenge whilst also claiming that the light heavyweight division will be open to all contenders whilst he is the champion.
After a disappointing performance, Pereira vowed to his fans that he would make the correct adjustments for the potential rematch, in hopes of reclaiming his gold belt.
