The beginning of any golfing year is fascinating to see what’s in players’ bags as well as some of the star names switching brands.
In recent times we’ve seen Tommy Fleetwood and Bryson DeChambeau add mini drivers to their bags and now Titleist have added the GT280 to their driver range out on tour.
As things stand, there aren’t too many details as it’s only available on tour but you might safely assume that it will be coming to retail in the coming months.
The reason some players favour a mini driver to a 3-wood is that there is more forgiveness given that it has a larger head profile and it offers more variability of launch and spin compared to a 460cc driver – the 280 no doubt refers to the 280cc head shape.
The Titleist GT drivers and fairways were released in June 2024 with the GT2, GT3 and GT4 in the drivers and GT2 and GT3 in the fairways.
Last year Titleist produced the TSR prototype 2-wood which Cameron Young put in his bag ahead of The Players and the GT280 offers a deeper profile along with white scoring lines on the face.
Otherwise it has the trademark stylish and clean looks that always come with any Titleist metal wood.
As a company Titleist always collaborate with the best players in the R&D process and they have worked with Young and Will Zalatoris to dial in a 13˚ head that will function equally as well off the tee and off the deck.
And, as we can see here, there is the usual Titleist SureFit hosel system which means the 13˚ club can be adjusted into 16 different settings with lofts up to 14.5˚ and down to 12.25˚.
