Jack Catterall vs Jorge Linares date: Start time, undercard and how to follow as El Gato faces former world champion in Liverpool

Jack Catterall will look to build on his win over Darragh Foley earlier this year when he takes on Jorge Linares next weekend.

The Chorley-born fighter didn’t box for 15 months until he faced Foley in May due to three attempts to arrange a rematch against Josh Taylor falling through.

Taylor was controversially awarded a win over Catterall in February 2022 and a rematch has proven to be elusive

Catterall still likely wants that rematch but is ready for this bout against Linares.

The 38-year-old is an extremely experienced boxer and has been a world champion in three separate divisions.

He has won 47 of his 55 professional bouts and boasts a 100 per cent record when fighting in the UK.

So this will be a stern test for Catterall, who is determined to rebuild his career and launch a world title challenge.

Catterall vs Linares: What has been said?

After so long out of the ring, Catterall just wants to fight as much as possible.

He said: “When I was offered this fight weeks ago, I immediately told Sam [Jones, Jack’s manager], 'let's do it'.

“My objective in boxing isn't to easily build up a record, but to challenge myself against the best. Linares' motivation is evident from his training videos, which spurs me on to work even harder.

“We both aim to give the fans an exhilarating fight, but my ultimate goal is to triumph.

“Recognising Linares' impending Hall of Fame induction, it's only right to show respect and not discuss future fights now.

“My team and I remain focused solely on defeating Linares and honouring his reputation by training diligently for our October 21st contest.”
