Iga Swiatek says that after years of finding playing on grass a challenge, she is now enjoying a new experience of feeling good on the surface.

That was certainly the case today at Wimbledon as the former World No. 1 enjoyed a resounding win over Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-3 to reach the fourth round.

Swiatek, seeded No. 8, did not allow Collins to gain any traction in the match from start to finish on Centre Court in their tenth career meeting. Though Collins won their last encounter in Rome on clay earlier this spring, Swiatek proved too good on all sides of the court this time.

The Polish star won 86 percent of first serve points and fended off all three break points she faced in the match. Collins didn’t help her cause by hitting only 11 winners and 25 unforced errors, many on her favored backhand side.

On match point, Swiatek struck a sweeping forehand crosscourt winner to seal the victory in just 75 minutes.

Afterwards in her post-match interview, Swiatek said she felt she was in the “zone” from the start.

“I was just in the zone," she said. "I knew what I wanted to play and I knew I needed to be brave, and just let my hand do the job, play fast and proactive from the beginning, because you can't let Danielle play her winners. I'm really happy with the performance because there were no ups and downs, it was pretty consistent, and it was a good match. It was a very good match.”

Despite her success at other majors the five-time Grand Slam champion has struggled to produce that winning form on grass. That may have changed this year due to a new mindset of seeking to have more fun on the surface.

“Honestly it's much more fun this year. I had some practices where the ball was listening to me, which was pretty new on grass. I'm just looking for that feeling on the match as well, and for sure today was a good day - in Bad Homburg as well. I played many good matches, so for sure it's giving me confidence, and honestly it's a new experience feeling good on grass.”

When asked what she is telling the ball, Swiatek added, “Just play on the lines. Honestly, if it's listening, I don't need to do much, because it's just pretty smooth.”

On her noted intensity while on court, Swiatek responded that she tries to stay balanced mentally by not thinking about too many things during a match, like what she’s having for dinner that night.

On the follow-up of what she will have tonight, she came up with her own version of a traditional Wimbledon treat.

“For sure not fish and chips, because it's too heavy, but my team has been eating every day like a cheat meal, and I'm just looking at them, and I'm like, guys, really, that's not helpful. I have my favorite, actually. I ate it as a kid. It's pasta with strawberries. “Pasta, strawberries, a little bit of yogurt. It's just great.”

Swiatek faces No. 23 seed Clara Tauson in the next round.
