ROH Death Before Dishonor 2024 Predictions? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day! Ring of Honor’s next pay-per-view event, ROH Death Before Dishonor 2024, will go down tonight at the Esports Stadium Arlington in Arlington, Texas.

My question for you today is a standard and simple one: “What are your predictions for ROH Death Before Dishonor?”

As far as my answer…

When it comes to shows that I don’t avidly watch, I’ll always preface my predictions by saying that you shouldn’t get the farm on what I’m saying. There are surely elements of these feuds that I’m unaware of that may point in certain directions. Ring of Honor isn’t a show I pay a ton of attention to, as it doesn’t speak to me as a wrestling fan for a few reasons, due to much of the talent involved, how I’m already overloaded on wrestling hours per week as it is, and the overall style and presentation of the show.

Nevertheless, very much in the way that NXT is still important to WWE as a whole, ROH being a feeder secondary brand does still mean something to All Elite Wrestling and the AEW landscape in general, so it’s worth tossing out some predictions. Just put more faith into the opinions in the comments below than in mine, particularly, for those who are more up-to-date than I am.

Without that being said, here’s my quick breakdown.

• Dustin Rhodes and The Von Erichs beat The Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver and Alex Reynolds) — I could have flipped a coin, but the way I see it, if either team is going to ever fight for the AEW/ROH World Trios Six-Man Unified Blah Blah Championship, and The Patriarchy is currently on top, babyfaces like Rhodes and The Von Erichs make more sense to me for a one-shot match on some future episode of Collision or whatever.
• Atlantis Jr. retains the ROH World Television Championship over Lio Rush, Shane Taylor, Johnny TV and Kyle Fletcher — I tend to assume people aren’t dropping their titles if they’ve won them relatively recently. That’s no guarantee, though. But I look at this crop and I think that none of them stand out as an obvious next champion, so I’m going to say Atlantis is just facing some randos and he’ll keep the belt.
• Texas Deathmatch: Leyla Hirsch beats Diamante — Tough call. Diamante has a win over Hirsch most recently in their Lights Out match, but Hirsch beat Diamante on June 8th. Diamante also has a six-woman trios match win over Hirsch from both May and April, though that might not really factor as much in. Hirsch has a trios win over Diamante in April, too. If the story is that Diamante can’t beat Hirsch, the numbers don’t exactly reflect that, strangely, and more recently. Why are they doing this after doing the Lights Out match where it seems like that should have settled things? I don’t know, so I’ll just go with Hirsch, then, as I would think the Lights Out would have been the finale if the purpose was for Diamante to ultimately get a win over Hirsch. Going back to the well must be for some other reason.
• Wheeler Yuta retains the ROH Pure Championship over Lee Moriarty — I’ve never seen anything from Moriarty that made him stand out. Ever. Maybe he’s shown more in ROH in recent months, but so much time was spent not stripping Yuta of this title that I feel like if Tony Khan didn’t want him specifically as champ, he wouldn’t be right now. I doubt it was to set up Moriarty beating him and they needed to reach that point.
• Billie Starkz retains the ROH Women’s World Television Championship over Red Velvet — I look at this and imagine they just were looking at who they had available who could fight Starkz that weren’t busy doing something else. At one point, I thought Red Velvet was on a serious rise, but that fizzled out.
• Athena retains the ROH Women’s World Championship over Queen Aminata — Maybe I’m wrong here, but I just assume over and over again that Starkz is the one who will beat Athena for this title eventually. Aminata has a good win/loss record as of late, so it’s not completely outside the realm of possibility she wins, though.
• Mark Briscoe retains the ROH World Championship over Roderick Strong — I’d be all for Strong winning this, but Briscoe dropping it now just feels too early. Instead, I get the sense Strong is just a…mind the pun…strong contender to provide for a worthwhile challenge.
