Backstage News On Ronda Rousey's Status After Surprise ROH Debut

Ronda Rousey emerged victorious in her Ring of Honor debut last night, teaming with Marina Shafir to defeat Athena and Billie Starkz.

The tag team bout was a rematch from a Wrestling REVOLVER event the week prior.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the match is believed to be a one-off affair for Rousey, who wanted to team with Shafir before having another child.

While it was teased that Rousey could challenge Athena for the ROH Women's Championship, this won't be happening any time soon, if at all.

AEW President Tony Khan previously stated that he was open to working with Rousey again, but unless things change, the former WWE Superstar has no interest in wrestling full-time again.

No one backstage had any clue about Rousey appearing for ROH until she was in the dressing room at the TV tapings.

While it's unknown why Rousey debuted for ROH and not AEW, it’s possible that’s what Rousey wanted, or that it was Khan's idea since Athena and Starkz are both in ROH.

The report states, "So with Ronda, it's a one-shot deal. Obviously, if Ronda wants to work more, they'll use her anytime. She was doing a favor for Marina [Shafir], to help Marina, and you know, that's that. It could change, but I do not expect — there's a reason that Ronda wanted to finish. It's a family reason."

"These shows that she's worked have all been in Los Angeles. They've all been to team with Marina, so it's a night out of fun for her. It's not like she's on the road or anything like that. She didn't leave WWE to go to AEW. Stranger things have happened, but certainly the idea when she left WWE was that she was done with wrestling and that she was moving on to the next stage of her life."

“Khan worked it out to where he allowed the match on the Revolver card but only with a DQ finish and in return the agreement was they would do a rematch on the ROH taping in Los Angeles the next night and do the finish with Rousey winning there.”

It remains to be seen what’s next for Rousey as we head towards the new year.
