Unused CM Punk ECW Title Is Discovered In WWE Warehouse

A version of the ECW Championship meant for CM Punk has been discovered in the WWE warehouse.
The former WWE Champion debuted on the ECW roster back in 2006. He signed with the company after leaving ROH and was immediately pushed as a top star on the brand. A match with Chris Benoit for the ECW Championship at Vengeance 2007 fell through for obvious reasons, but Punk eventually beat John Morrison for the belt in September 2007 to become the ECW Champion.
CM Punk held the title until January 2008. He would drop it to Chavo Guerrero during their lengthy feud, which included a Gulf of Mexico match. While ECW has been dead since 2010, a brand-new championship was recently found in the WWE Warehouse.
WWE Vault posted on their YouTube Channel about the discovery of this title belt. It was created during CM Punk’s reign as champion and was created somewhere between 2007 and 2008.
The title was silver with bold red letters saying “ECW” in the middle. It also had CM Punk’s name on the nameplate, showing who was the champion when it was created. The belt also bears a striking resemblance to the ROH Championship at this time, which may be why the WWE didn’t make it the official ECW Championship.
This belt was not released publicly, and a new larger belt with more silver detail was created for Mark Henry’s reign as champion.
CM Punk Sees WWE RAW's Move To Netflix Having A Similar Effect To Wrestling's Debut On Cable TV
CM Punk sees history repeating itself in a major way.
unk appeared at WWE's RAW on Netflix kickoff event at WWE Headquarters on Wednesday. During the event, Michael Cole asked for his thoughts on RAW moving to Netflix in January. Punk said that in the 60s and 70s, no one ever dreamed pro wrestling would air nationally on cable television. However, it happened, and now WWE is poised to make a huge splash on Netflix.
"I think historically, if you look at the landscape of professional wrestling, when it was territories and they're packing stadiums like Shea Stadium and all that other stuff," CM Punk explained. "Nobody ever thought, 'This is going to be on cable television.' And then we did it. We just had a successful Saturday Night's Main Event, we sold out Nassau Coliseum. I look at that as a similar turning point, right?
"Network television, so many of these — look at all of these hardcore fans here. These hardcore fans are the lifeblood of the business," he continued. "What being on network television in the '80s, being on Saturday Night's Main Event did to make new hardcore fans and attract new people to WWE, I look at Netflix as the same thing. We already have a global reach, this amplifies it — beyond what I think a lot of people are able to grasp — again. We kinda know how it's going to go, but I think it's going to be even bigger than any of us dreamed."
