Ronda Rousey announced some big personal news at San Diego Comic-Con.

Rousey shared that she and her husband, Travis Browne, are expecting another child. The couple are already parents to a two-year-old daughter named La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō. Rousey is also a stepmother to Browne’s two sons from a previous marriage.

Ronda Rousey was at this year’s Comic-Con to promote her debut graphic novel, Expecting the Unexpected. The project launched on Thursday through a Kickstarter campaign. Former Editor-In-Chief of Marvel Axel Alonso and Eisner Award-winning artist Mike Deodato Jr. joined Rousey on stage, while Dave Bautista served as moderator of the event.

The Wise Man’s words of wisdom

Rousey spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard to promote her new graphic novel, which she called a story that was five years in the making.

Rousey originally saw the story as her own Rocky, and it pulled from her love of martial arts and cinema. She aimed to create an opportunity to prove herself in a new way, and she shared how WWE’s Paul Heyman gave her some key advice to get things started.

"I ended up really getting the idea for this from Paul Heyman during the go-home show before our main event at WrestleMania [35]," Rousey said. "He asked, 'What kind of movie do you want to star in?' And I never really thought about that [before]. I had just been kind of passive, just frustrated and waiting for someone to hand me the perfect opportunity without even really putting much thought into what that would be. So I was really thinking like, okay, what is part that no one could play better than me?

"I've always, of course, wanted to do action, martial arts," she continued. "But where I was in my life at the time, I was trying to get pregnant. And what ended up coming out in an 11-hour writing binge was a martial arts romantic comedy. It was kind of like a genre mash-up that I've never seen before. In trying to create for myself a part that no one could play better than me, I ended up writing something that no one could have written other than me."
