He's Done: AEW Star Announces Retirement (But Not From Wrestling)

He’s done. Wrestlers are a lot of things, but above all else, they are athletes. They are able to get in a ring and do some very impressive things, though they are also able to do some things in other sports as well. It can be interesting to see a wrestler try his hand elsewhere, but now one star has announced that he will not be participating in another sport again, despite being successful.

In a virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, AEW’s Jake Hager has announced that he is retired from mixed martial arts and focusing on wrestling. Hager says he had been training last year but Bellator MMA was “jerking him off”, causing him to retire. Hager, 41 years old, retires from MMA with a career 3-0-1 record. His most recent fight took place in October 2020.

Hager has had quite the wrestling career. Check out his time in AEW:

Opinion: I’m not sure what happened with Hager and Bellator but he hasn’t found in nearly three years, which would suggest to me that it wasn’t likely to happy anyway. While Hager was starting to do well with fighting, he has already done well with wrestling and it makes some sense to stay there. He’s been with AEW for a good while now and if that is enough for him, that’s all that matters.

What did you think of Hager’s MMA career? How should AEW use him? Let us know in the comments below.
