The second edition of the Wuhan Open gets underway on Sunday, with Judd Trump aiming to defend the title he won last year.

The world number one has been in fabulous form so far this season, winning the Shanghai Masters and the brand new Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.

He is the favourite to win yet another title and pick up the lovely trophy in Wuhan again, just as he did after his 10-7 victory over Ali Carter in last year’s final.

There are some big names missing from the field as Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Allen and Dave Gilbert have all withdrawn in the week leading up to the event.

Mark Williams chose not to enter the tournament, while there have been some major casualties in the qualifying rounds played in Leicester back in July.

Chief among them was Mark Selby who was stunned 5-4 by Long Zehuang so won’t be able to follow up on his brilliant British Open success last week in Cheltenham.

Also suffering somewhat surprising defeats in qualifying were the likes of Stuart Bingham, Tom Ford, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Ricky Walden, Stephen Maguire and Zhou Yuelong.
