Vito Victorious in First Q Tour Americas Event

Canadian Vito Puopolo defeated fellow countryman Jason Williams 5-1 in the final of the maiden Q Tour Americas event in Toronto.

Twenty-seven players from Canada and the United States gathered at The Corner Bank in Toronto over the weekend to compete in the first of three events in the series. Further tournaments in the United States and Brazil take place in February and March with two places in the Global Play-Off up for grabs for the two top-ranked players in the Americas series.

A former Canadian national champion and Pan-American Seniors champion, Puopolo stormed to the final in his home country with victories over Matt Fifield, Charlie Brown and Alan Whitfield – dropping just a single frame to Brown in the process.

On the opposite side of the draw, Williams whitewashed Will Hamilton before securing 4-2 wins against Cheukyin Kwan and Sahil Nayyar to set up a final meeting with Puopolo on Sunday.

Puopolo, who played at the Crucible Theatre last May in the World Seniors Championship, raced into a 4-0 lead and eventually ran out a comfortable 5-1 winner in the final to take an early lead in the the race to the Global Play-Off in Bosnia & Herzegovina in March, where three World Snooker Tour cards will be on offer.
