Ronnie O'Sullivan headlines Class of 92 day as World Grand Prix schedule confirmed
20/12/2023 17:13
All three members of the legendary Class of 92 will be in action on the same day of a blockbuster opening round at the World Grand Prix in January.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Williams are all playing on Tuesday 16 January in Leicester, the second day of the event for the top 32 players on the one-year ranking list so far this season.
The Rocket faces rising Chinese star Pang Junxu while Williams meets Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Higgins has a nightmare first round draw in Shaun Murphy.
With just 32 players involved it is little surprise that there are plenty of tasty early draws, with the likes of Mark Allen vs Jack Lisowski and Ding Junhui vs Ricky Walden also catching the eye.
Big names like world champion Luca Brecel, Neil Robertson and Kyren Wilson have all missed out on the World Grand Prix this year after slow starts to the season, while steady starts to the campaign have seen the likes of Dominic Dale make it into the field.
The World Grand Prix is the first ranking event of 2024 and it’s a big one, with £100,000 on the line for the winner, a prize which Mark Allen took home last season.
It comes immediately after the Masters next month, with the Alexandra Palace spectacular running from 7-14 January and the Grand Prix kicking off the following day.
