Peter Gilchrist defeated Peter Sheehan 873-112 to win the Club 200 Open at Club 200 in Manchester, England.
The former world champion came through a field of 42 competitors from five nations to follow up on his recent Sydney Open defence and secure back-to-back ranking crowns.
Despite falling at the final hurdle, England’s Sheehan earned arguably the most notable victory of the weekend by ending the 16-month undefeated streak of current world number one David Causier at the semi-finals stage.
Gilchrist comfortably topped his initial group phase with a clean sweep of victories over Phil Johnson, James Rushforth, Jake Hodgson and John Twist.
A top break of 327 helped the Singapore representative to victory Chris Coumbe in the last 16 before furthers wins over John Hughes and last year’s world finalist Robert Hall to book his place in the title match.
Sheehan had reached his first ranking event final of the season by overcoming Matt Spade, Darren Clark and then impressively ending the remarkable winning streak of Causier in the last four.
Gilchrist found another gear in the final as stunning breaks of 362 and 416 saw the 57-year-old earn the title by a winning margin of 761 points.
