Neil Robertson’s epic run of winning a title every year since 2006 has finally come to an end with defeat to Zhou Yuelong in his opening match at the UK Championship.

The Thunder from Down Under has not been at his best this season but has come up against players in fine form and that was the case on Tuesday night as Zhou played brilliantly.

The 25-year-old knocked in breaks of 136, 134, 99, 80, 74, 67 and 50 in a dominant 6-2 victory over a man he had never beaten before in a long-format match.

It is a great win for the Chinese star, but a painful one for the Australian who sees his stunning run of trophies come to an end.

Having won a professional tournament every year since 2006, he will not claim a title in 2023 as he is not competing in the final events of the year, the Shoot Out and Scottish Open.

After a poor run of results, Robertson has already decided to go back to Australia and spend time with his family instead of playing in Swansea or Edinburgh, so the run is officially at an end with the defeat to Zhou.

The impressive victory for Zhou books himself a spot in the last 16 against another former world champion, John Higgins.
