Andy McCloskey defeated Ajeya Prabhakar 4-2 in the final of the second event of the WPBSA Q Tour Americas series in Arizona, USA.
The success for McCloskey sees him claim the first Q Tour title of his career and join Brazil’s Igor Figueiredo, who won the first event in Rio de Janeiro back in March, on this season’s Q Tour Americas roll of honour.
Twenty cueists from the USA and Canada embarked on the Arizona Snooker Academy in Chandler for the event which was organised by the Pan American Billiards & Snooker Association (PABSA).
McCloskey was in fine form as he stormed to the final without dropping a single frame en route – overcoming Bahador Rahimi, Tom Limor and former Q Tour event winner Hasanain Alsultani.
Two-time United States national champion Prabhakar was his opponent in the title match after he had beaten Daren Taylor 4-2 in the semi-finals with help from a break of 92, which was the highest of the event in Arizona.
The final was closely-contested with the two players sharing the first four frames of the best-of-seven match.
McCloskey was able to take frame five to move one away from the title before a break of 59 helped him over the line a 4-2 victor to claim the Q Tour crown.
The third and final Q Tour Americas event will take place at The Corner Bank in Toronto, Canada on 17-19 January 2025.
