Championship League draw features Ronnie O'Sullivan and Kyren Wilson but big names missing

The draw and schedule for the first event of the new season has been released, with the Championship League getting underway on Monday in Leicester.

The lengthy event runs from 10 June to the final being played on 3 July, but while it might be a fairly sedate curtain-raiser for the season, it is a ranking event and a good chance for players to kick off their campaign on the right note.

It is an especially good chance for players who would not be considered regular winners on tour as a number of big hitters in the game have not entered the Championship League.

Seven of the current top 16 will not be involved with Mark Allen, Judd Trump, Luca Brecel, Mark Selby, Ding Junhui, Zhang Anda and Barry Hawkins all choosing not to play.

New world champion Kyren Wilson is involved in the draw, as is Ronnie O’Sullivan, defending champion Shaun Murphy and the likes of John Higgins, Mark Williams and Gary Wilson, so there is no shortage of top talent in there.

World Championship runner-up Jak Jones will be playing, as will semi-finalists Dave Gilbert and Stuart Bingham in their first outings since the Crucible.

There are three group stages to be played in the Championship League, with the winner picking up the trophy and £33,000 in the process at the Morningside Arena.
