Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of all time and boasts a professional record only others could dream of.

The word legend is thrown about far too often these days but it probably doesn’t do justice for Floyd Mayweather’s career.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr, was always going to be a difficult path to tread. But, he conquered it in style.

After suffering defeat in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Mayweather vowed never to lose again and went on to establish himself as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters ever.

Fresh off the back of an eight-round exhibition fight against John Gotti III, in which he fired a referee midway through the contest, the 47-year-old is once again back in the headlines.

Floyd Mayweather next fight

Mayweather has no plans to fight in the future so far but there have been links to potential bouts against Manny Pacquiao, Logan Paul, Conor McGregor, Victor Ortiz, and Jake Paul.

Floyd Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya

Dubbed the most lucrative fight in boxing history at the time, Mayweather finally faced off against Oscar De La Hoya in May 2007.

This was ‘Pretty Boy’s’ first fight at light-middleweight and it didn’t get much tougher than facing six-division champion and the current WBC light-middleweight title holder.

Mayweather weighed in significantly lighter than De La Hoya but that worked in his favor and he recorded a famous unanimous win in arguably one of the performances of his career.

Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton

Mayweather had only been in retirement for a brief period before it was suddenly announced that he would be facing Ricky Hatton in December 2007.

Mayweather moved back down to welterweight to defend his WBC and The Ring welterweight titles.

‘Hitman’ Hatton shocked Mayweather with a brutal first-round jab however it didn’t affect the American for long as he recovered to deliver a devastating display, knocking Hatton down in the 10th before his corner threw in the towel.

Floyd Mayweather vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez

The year was 2012 and a young, 23-year-old Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez was handed his biggest test in boxing so far.

Unbeaten at the time, the Mexican couldn’t live up to the bill as Mayweather’s experience shone throughout the bout as he inflicted a first career defeat on Canelo.

‘Money’ was awarded a majority decision victory however there was controversy behind the scorecards as judge CJ Ross was criticized for scoring it as a draw.

Ross subsequently retired from the sport as a result of the backlash.

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao

It was a case of better late than never when Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao met in 2015.

Both had tried to secure a fight against each other during their prime but failed to agree on terms however it was worth the wait as the WBA, WBC, WBO, and the Ring welterweight titles were all on the line.

The fight became the highest-grossing PPV of all time, generating $410m in the United States alone.

Mayweather nullified all of Pacquiao’s threats and controlled the ring as the Philippine boxing legend struggled with injury.

Nonetheless, Mayweather deservedly earned a unanimous win in what was touted as his best-ever career win.

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor

Mayweather’s final professional fight came against UFC star Conor McGregor.

Heading into the fight, Mayweather said it would be his final as a pro as he wanted to end his career on an infamous 50-0 record.

Negotiations and rumors about a fight went on for years before the two finally met in 2017.

Despite McGregor’s experience in other combat sports, it wasn’t enough to dethrone Mayweather, who surpassed Rocky Marciano’s record of 49-0 by winning in the 10th round via technical knockout.

Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul

Following his first steps into the world of boxing exhibition fights, Mayweather was challenged to go head-to-head in the ring with Logan Paul.

After their original 2020 date was postponed the pair fought in June 2021. The build-up to the fight saw ‘Money’ become involved in a heated row with Logan’s brother Jake Paul, who stole the Michigan-born champion’s hat.

The fight itself was a rather uneventful affair as Paul spent the majority of the fight clinching and clinging on to dear life but Mayweather was dominant.

No score was taken during the fight however Mayweather did praise his opponent, claiming he was “better than he thought”.

Floyd Mayweather vs Deji

The next of the social media influencers to step into the ring was Deji Olatunji – the brother of internet sensation KSI.

Unlike his fight against Logan Paul, this one was a scored contest and took place in Dubai in 2022.

Once again it was a victory for ‘Pretty Boy’, who won by technical knockout in the third round.

Floyd Mayweather vs John Gotti III

In April 2023 it was announced that Mayweather would be facing MMA star John Gotti III on June 11, 2023.

Unfortunately, the bout had to be stopped in the sixth round by referee Kenny Bayliss following several interruptions.

Both fighters had been warned for continuously trash-talking and after Bayliss stopped the fight, Gotti charged at Mayweather before members from both corners clashed in the ring.

Further brawls would take place in and outside the ring on a dark day for the sport.

Floyd Mayweather vs John Gotti III: The rematch

One year on from the ugly scenes in Florida, Mayweather and Gotti met again in an exhibition bout on 23 August 2024.

The fight once again saw some controversy as Mayweather fired the referee Hector Afu in the second round and replaced him with Mexican Alfredo Uruzquieta.

‘Pretty Boy’ dominated the fight but those in Mexico City were less than impressed as many booed throughout the bout.

Floyd Mayweather entertainment career

As well as boxing, Mayweather has also competed in the WWE, appearing at their No Way Out event in 2008. He was involved in a storyline with the Big Show, accidentally breaking his nose in one segment with a punch, and was challenged to a one-on-one no-contest at WrestleMania XXIV.

The Michigan-born fighter accepted and knocked out Big Show with brass knuckles to remain unbeaten.

In 2009 he acted as a guest host for Raw and was part of several storylines on the night.

He also appeared on the fifth season of Dancing With the Stars in 2007 and was partnered with Ukrainian-American professional ballroom dancer Karina Smirnoff.

They became the fourth couple to be eliminated from the show.
