CJ Vergara’s days of being a UFC fighter are over.
The UFC Flyweight from San Antonio, Texas made a total of eight walks to the Octagon, his final one coming south of the border at UFC Mexico City. There, the 33-year-old attempted to bounce back from two-straight losses in his fight against Edgar Chairez.
Within minutes, Chairez extended Vergara’s losing streak to three with a relentless attack on the feet followed by a first-round submission, an emotional moment for the Mexican.
As for Vergara, this would mark the end of his UFC run.
CJ Vergara no longer on the UFC roster after 8 fights
On Thursday, X account UFC Roster Watch reported Vergara had been removed from the UFC roster.
It is unknown at this time whether Vergara fought out his contract and wasn’t re-signed or if he was cut due to consecutive losses.
Vergara signed to the UFC off of Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021. He went 3-2 in his first five fights, ending his career with a 3-5 record after three losses in a row to Asu Almabayev, Ramazan Temirov and Edgar Chairez.
The flyweight missed weight three times across eight fights, one of which was against then-undefeated contender Tatsuro Taira.
CJ Vergara ran for best UFC win
Vergara went viral in March 2023 for how he ran away from opponent Daniel Lacerda after he had him hurt.
Vergara would somehow survive to score an epic comeback KO in the second round, finishing his opponent with ground and pound.
The highlight of his UFC career had come from his hometown of San Antonio; Vergara pocketed an additional $50,000 for the performance.
CJ Vergara has 12 wins, seven by knockout.
We’ll see where the UFC veteran and Contender Series alumni ends up in free agency.
