'There Is No Team Nurmagomedov Without Abdulmanap'
In episode 3 of "Road to Dubai," Khabib Nurmagomedov, Umar Nurmagomedov and Usman Nurmagomedov look back at their history of training with Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who passed away in July 2020 (details here).
Following his death of COVID 19 and heart complications, Khabib opted to retire following his win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, saying he didn't feel right competing without his father by his side since he was so instrumental to his career. The didn't stop "The Eagle's" involvement in mixed martial arts (MMA), however, because the former UFC Lightweight champion took over as coach for his family.
What resulted was Islam Makhachev, Usman Nurmagomedov and Gadzhi Rabadanov all winning titles. More recently, Umar Nurmaggomedov came up short in his bid to win the UFC Bantamweight title against Merab Dvalishvili, the first setback for Team Khabib in a very long time. As for Makhachev, he defeated Renato Moicano on the same night to earn his fourth straight title defense (see it here).
Now, the successful camp will attempt to secure yet another title defense as Usman defends his belt against rising Irish sensation, Paul Hughes, this Saturday (Jan. 25) in the main event of "Road to Dubai" inside Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
