Robbie Lawler officially announced as the next inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame
The montage started with Robbie Lawler asserting what fight fans have come to know all too well, saying: “I’m all heart, let’s find out who has more.”
At this point, his old footage began to play, with the Joe Rogan of twenty years ago, exclaiming: “Every punch he throws is to knock you senseless.”
Lawler was an out-and-out warrior, living by a mentality of: ‘I don’t think anyone can hurt me’, which resulted in the American delivering an array of epic fights.
Daniel Cormier pointed out: “What was most impressive about Robbie Lawler was the second act. When he got back to the UFC, he was just different.”
After winning the championship belt, he went head-to-head with Rory MacDonald, in an encounter that’s earned it’s own place in The UFC Hall of Fame.
The clash has a special place in Dricus Du Plessis‘ heart, with the South African insisting he’ll never forget the facial injuries ‘Ruthless’ suffered that day.
It goes without saying that very few would carry on with such a massive cut on their lip, with Lawler’s attitude scaring even the most fearsome of fighters.
Robert Whittaker confessed: “I remember watching him, and saying to myself s— fighting that guy.”
But of all the compliments Lawler received, perhaps none were as heartwarming as what the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization’s first champion had to say about him.
Royce Gracie gave Robbie Lawler an incredible compliment
Some people are simply born to fight, and Lawler is undeniably one of those special human beings.
Royce Gracie has enormous admiration for the former welterweight King, with the Brazilian jiu-jitsu icon, making a comment that perfectly sums up the American’s journey.
The esteemed grappler stated: “Some guys are martial artists, and they learn how to fight. Robbie Lawler was a fighter, who became a mixed martial artist.”
Of course, remarks like these meant the world to Lawer, with the 42-year-old noticeably fighting back the tears as the crowd screamed his name.
