UFC 296: Edwards vs. Covington took place Dec. 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson (25-10) looked to stop his six-fight losing skid against up-and-coming Liverpool native Paddy Pimblett (21-3) in a featured bout on the night's main card, which aired live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Round 1: Both come out in orthodox and Pimblett takes the center to start with Ferguson bouncing around the outside.

First engagement and Pimblett looks a little rigid but lands a left. Ferguson lands a right hand but Pimblett eats it well. Leg kick for Tony. Paddy moving around now and shoots from way outside. Tony stuffs it with ease.

Ferguson pressing forward consistently now and Paddy trying to find the range. He lands a pair of body kicks. And a calf kick. His kicking game is starting to get going but Tony lands a pair of right hands. Neither man throwing with real bad intentions.

Paddy whiffs on a counter left hook. He cannot get anything going with his hands and Tony keeps jabbing him back. Ferguson controlling the cage at this point and Pimblett seems okay with that. He goes back to the low kick and lands a good left hand but tony lands one back.

Pimblett biting down on his mouthpiece now. Tony's lead leg is starting to show damage and Paddy is getting the mitts on him. Tony on the retreat as a strong right hand hits him hard. Tony brawling back with him now but he eats another one!

Ferguson looks a little slow in there with his reactions and Paddy lands a monster combo that gets Ferguson on the retreat! And Ferguson drops! Pimblett is putting it on him! Ferguson got rocked and he's in survival mode!

Paddy takes the back and moves to mount. Ferguson rolling, trying to survive but he gets warned from the ref! Big shots and Ferguson scrambling but Paddy staying on him and Ferguson gets saved by the bell!

Round 2: Ferguson is still a very tough man but you have to wonder what the point of this is. He's slow and he can't take damage nearly as well anymore. But to his credit, he's up and ready to fight once again. No quit in that man.

Pimblett has his chin up in the air but it probably doesn't matter. Ferguson can't really hurt him and when Tony steps in, Pimblett is just whipping hook combos at him.

Ferguson steps in and gets knocked down from a hook. More off balance than a big shot but Paddy is on top now. Ferguson playing guard and Pimblett starting to land shots. He's content to stay in the guard and rain down shots. He gets Ferguson to the fence.

Tony starts playing rubber guard and it looks like an elbow from the bottom may have cut Pimblett. Not slowing down though. Ferguson still getting squirrelly and grabbing the fence a bunch but no one will ever penalize him for that.

Pimblett with consistent offense from here. Nothing major but he's hitting Tony and weighing on him. Pimblett is opened up from his nose, not a cut and he's almost to half guard. Gets there and he's attacking an arm-triangle set up but Ferguson is keen to it.

Ferguson gets guard again. Pimblett back to work with punches and elbows. Smothering performance thus far. Ferguson has no answers because he's not trying to stand up. He's just content to play from here. Which I guess is better than getting his brains beaten in like happened in Round 1.

Round 3: Ferguson has a 1000 yard stare. He corner is trying to motivate him but Father Time is a cruel SOB. He's right back to it when the round kicks up again though.

Pimblett taking some breaths as Ferguson presses on him. Ferguson appears to be tired but he's just gonna press through. Pimblett is tired and taking his time.

WEAK shot from Pimblett but Ferguson stuffs it and Pimblett tries to pull guard. Tony steps off it and Paddy looking GASSED. Things could get a little spicy in here!

Nope. Nevermind. Paddy shoots a double and dumps Ferguson. Tony showing no urgency to get up and so Paddy is going to spend 3 minutes surviving here.

Tony with some elbows but he is also a little tired in there. And Paddy passes to top half. And now he's loosely attacking an arm triangle. Gives up and Tony reclaims guard. Pimblett showing small amounts of work.

Pimblett gets him to the fence and Ferguson tries to kick him off. His corner is begging him for it but Pimblett is smothering again. final minute of the fight and the boos are loud.

Ferguson attacking a guillotine but that's not serious. And with short time Paddy has caught a second wind. Tony rolls and has legs in triangle position but Paddy can grapple so it doesn't stick.
