One Punch! Prates Annihilates Magny In First Round
11/09/2024 09:27 PM
Carlos Prates vs. Neil Magny squared off in a Welterweight contest earlier tonight (Sat. Nov. 9, 2024) at UFC Vegas 100 inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Magny wasted very little time attempting a single leg takedown. Prates defended well with a cross face, dumping Magny to the floor and landing in his guard. Prates landed a few big shots then let him back to his feet, immediately kicking the lead leg. Magny didn't rest at range, however, putting together a combo, clinch, and takedown attempt. He successfully backed the Brazilian into the fence, allowing Magny to chain wrestle. He didn't finish the shot, but it was a bit concerning that Magny was able to secure his clinch so early in the fight.
When Prates did separate, he stalked Magny towards the fence and knocked him down with a counter right! Prates let him back to his feet and unleashed his combinations on a wobbly Magny. "Haitian Sensation" looked really uncomfortable, but he managed to grapple enough to survive ... for a moment! Magny had his legs back under him and the round was coming to a close, but a Prates left hand clipped his temple and sent him to the floor, face-first!
It's safe to say Prates passed the Magny test with flying colors. Though he spent a minute or two controlled along the cage, Magny never managed to take him down. As soon as he turned up the aggression, Magny was hitting the canvas. The veteran simply couldn't hang on the feet at all!
Magny extends his UFC KO streak to four, and the man looks plenty ready for a Top 10 opponent. Either way, "The Nightmare" is MUST-WATCH entertainment moving into 2025.
Result: Prates defeats Magny via first-round knockout
