Merab Dvalishvili says a pot of yogurt almost caused his demise at UFC 306

In front of a packed house during a historic show, Merab Dvalishvili made all his dreams come true, dominating Sean O’Malley to win the UFC bantamweight crown.

However, it all could’ve been so different, if the Georgian had taken a couple more kicks to the body.

Over the years, combat sports fans have heard some bizarre excuses for losses, ranging from Deontay Wilder claiming his ring-walk suit was too heavy before his fight with Tyson Fury, or Alistair Overeem saying he felt a tap against Stipe Miocic that seemingly never took place.

However, luckily, because he managed to win, Dvalishvili can reveal what happened before the bout over the weekend without any fear of backlash.

While the talented wrestler utilized his grappling prowess to dominate the bulk of the contest, at one point, O’Malley noticeably hurt him with a kick to the body. However, rather than giving credit to the American for the shot, Dvalishvili has instead put it down to a pot of bad yogurt that he had before the fight.

In an interview with Daniel Cormier on the former two-weight champion’s YouTube channel, he said: "John Wood gave me some – they give you a bag – and I ate that yogurt or something sweet. Once I eat this, my stomach is like, 'What the f–k?” Like, what’s wrong with me?”

Confused by what the 135-pounder experienced, ‘DC’ asked whether he needed to ‘S**t’.

Dvalishvili clarified: “Not like that, but I feel the pain in my stomach. Anyway, I fight, and then in the fifth round, he kicked me, and I feel this pain. I was like, 'F**k what's going on’?”

Merab Dvalishvili compared to a legendary UFC heavyweight

Having compiled an excellent resume in the UFC, the new bantamweight King is earning respect from purists across the globe.

Esteemed trainer, Javier Mendez, is particularly impressed by what he’s seen.

While the coach believes he can guide Umar Nurmagomedov to victory over Dvalishvili, he’s still willing to pay the 33-year-old his respect.

He even went as far as to compare the MMA star to one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever graced the sport.
