Khalil Rountree Jr surprisingly got the call up to be the next light heavyweight to attempt to dethrone champion Alex Pereira and he will take him on in the UFC 307 main event in October.

The fight booking has caused some controversy amongst some of the top light heavyweight contenders that got snubbed and has also confused the majority of the MMA fanbase.

Khalil Rountree Jr hasn’t fought since December last year when he knocked out former title challenger, Anthony Smith in the third round.

Khalil Rountree Jr comments on Alex Pereira using Shamanic spirits ahead of fights

Prior to Alex Pereira‘s UFC 303 rematch against Jiri Prochazka, Prochazka accused Pereira of using Shamanic spirts to win fights, and claimed that he wouldn’t be able to fight without the help of the Shamanic spirits.

This theory was then backed up by heavyweight champion Jon Jones who claimed that he has felt the power of spirits during his fights. Israel Adesanya also revealed recently that he felt spirits behind Robert Whittaker when they previously fought.

With spiritual talk in MMA becoming a common theme, especially in relation to the Brazilian champion, Rountree Jr has commented on dealing with that ahead of his fight against Pereira.

“I don’t (care about the spiritual things before his fights). It don’t matter, dude, like none of that stuff matters at all, I don’t pay attention to that,” Rountree Jr began to explain in an interview with the Schmo.

“I’m just excited, like I say it over and over again none of that stuff matters, what the fans say or what the haters say it doesn’t matter, face paint doesn’t matter, what matters is as soon as the cage door closes and we get to perform for the fans that’s the moment, that’s the most exciting,” he continued.

Khalil Rountree Jr reveals he won’t attempt to take Alex Pereira down

‘War Horse’ is most well known for his ferocious kickboxing, similarly to Pereira. Since moving up to 205lbs, Pereira has only really struggled with one opponent, and that was Jan Blachowicz because he tested his ground game.

Despite that being a clear path to victory against ‘Poatan’, the 34-year-old has revealed that he will not be attempting to take him down and will give the fans a striking match they crave, as he has not attempted a single takedown in 15 UFC fights.

“Check this out, in my career, I have never shot one takedown, that’s not in my plans, right. I’m here to put on an amazing fight for the fans, this one regardless of what anybody says, this is a fight for the fans. With my style, with his style this fight is not gonna disappoint.

“I’m there to do what I do, to do what my fans and everybody knows what I’m capable of and I’ll I can say is just expect a banger man,” Rountree Jr stated.
