Gaethje vs. Fiziev 2 took place March 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Justin Gaethje (26-5) and Rafael Fiziev (12-4) squared off in the co-main event clash. The fight aired live on pay-per-view on ESPN+.

Round 1

Referee Jason Herzog on hand for the co-main event.

Takedown by Fiziev! We're mixing the martial arts. But Gaethje uses his counter-wrestling to stand. Fiziev hits him with a knee up the middle for his troubles. They're still tied up and a scramble ends with Fiziev on top in a reverse triangle position. Not sure he can lock it up from this position, but Gaethje has to work hard to get out of there. They're back on the feet with plenty of round to go.

Gaethje lands a couple of punches from distance. Knees to the body in the clinch from Fiziev. Gaethje kicks the body and Fiziev answers with a counter right. These two are playing with fire.

Gaethje avoids a Fiziev combo. He fires a right hand in and scores on Fiziev's chin. Takedown attempt by Gaethje, Fiziev evades. Counter left from Fiziev.

Round 2

Commentators mention that Fiziev lost some skin on his right toe in Round 1. Gross.

Gaethje holding center, there's a solid pair of hooks from from him as Fiziev ducks in. Fiziev with a body kick, but it appeared to be low. Herzog calls for a pause in the action. Fiziev doesn't agree, but replay shows his kick definitely glanced the cup. On the reset, Fiziev lands a glancing right. There's a hard right from Gaethje. Feels like a KO could happen at any moment, either way.

Another good right for Gaethje. Fiziev to the body, but he takes a right hand for his troubles. Gaethje lands a two-punch combo. Fiziev back to the body. Overhand right from Gaethje and he just misses with a follow-up uppercut.

Fiziev misses a high kick, but his right hand connects. Gaethje loading up his right, but Fiziev dodges. Fiziev scores with a knee, Gaethje answers with a right. These two can't seem to land anything without getting something back.

Counter left by Gaethje. Fiziev steps in and just drives a knee into Gaethje's body. Big uppercut from Gaethje and Fiziev gets dropped! He recovers quickly enough and goes to shoot, but Gaethje stuffs it and lands more punches. This is a bad spot for Fiziev to be in. He manages to get back to the feet. Tense final seconds there, but we're headed to Round 3.

Round 3

Crowd is hyped and they give Gaethje and Fiziev a well-deserved round of applause.

Gaethje is a wood-chipper every time Fiziev gets in range. Fiziev flings out a spin kick, Gaethje has it scouted and it glances off his shoulder. Stiff inside leg kick from Fiziev. Gaethje looking for the right hand on the counter, Fiziev getting his head out of there just in time. Left hook from Fiziev, followed by a kick to the body. He's sticking with those body kicks and they're working.

Gaethje sneaks in another uppercut, Fiziev takes that one better than last time. Head kick from Gaethje partially connects, Fiziev catches it, Gaethje rolls out of danger. Gaethje throwing combinations now.

Grueling exchanges in the clinch as we reach the halfway mark of Round 3. They separate and Fiziev catches Gaethje with a high kick. Gaethje continues to press forward. He's throwing that uppercut out there.

Uppercut from Gaethje into a takedown, Fiziev blocks it. Fiziev pivots off the fence, but Gaethje is right there chasing him with punches. High kick from Gaethje backs Fiziev up, but only for a second as he goes right back in to trade. Good punch from Gaethje to close the round.

Wish this had been a five-rounder.
