Mokhtarian was nearly assassinated a year ago outside an Australian Top Team gym, and now police fear another attempt is imminent.

An MMA event in Sydney, Australia may be cancelled due to fears from police that a former UFC fighter could be assassinated if he attends.

Dark Matter Fighting Championship was set to go down at Warwick Farm over Easter weekend, but police told promoters that the event could not go forward due to "concerns surrounding some of the people set to attend."

Australian radio station 2GB Sydney dug into story and discovered the authorities believed there could be a gangland hit at the event on Australia Top Team owner Suman Mokhtarian, who was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter Season 27: Team Miocic vs. Team Cormier and went 0-2 during a 2018/2019 UFC stint.

"One of the coaches that's due to be there on Easter weekend is a man called Suman Mokhtarian," 2GB's Ben Fordham reported. "He's a former fighter and now a coach. And police got intelligence that his life may be in danger if he attends. They've got good reason to believe that someone wants him dead because in February 2024 he survived an assassination attempt."

"Suman Mokhtarian was outside an MMA gym in Wentworthwille. A 21 year old man allegedly disguised himself as a delivery driver and opened fire. The alleged gunman is on bail, charged with attempted murder. Mokhtarian survived that assassination attempt and on Easter long weekend has several fighters competing in the championships at Warwick Farm."

Mokhtarian just may be mixed up in some shady business. His brother Ashkan Mokhtarian (also a UFC vet with an 0-2 record) was arrested in 2023 on drug charges and remains in jail.

Here's a little tip to those in the Australian justice system: if you're worried Mokhtarian may still be assassinated, maybe letting the would-be assassin that tried to assassinate him out on bail was a bad idea? Cancelling an MMA event because Mokhtarian is there seems silly. He's also at his gym a lot, where the last attempt went down. Will they be shutting that down too?

Maybe they just need to pack Mokhtarian away in a box with bubble wrap until this all blows over. That being said, if you happen to train at ATT in Wentworthwille, don't be accepting any DoorDash orders or Amazon deliveries.
