With Jorge Masvidal keen to make a major return to the UFC, an MMA icon wonders whether ‘Gamebred’ still has what it takes to make a splash at the top level of the sport.

While the Miami brawler remains a huge name, he hasn’t experienced the sweet taste of victory since 2019.

Daniel Cormier questions whether Jorge Masvidal can still make an impact in the UFC

Throughout his career, Jorge Masvidal has endeared hardcore MMA enthusiasts with his willingness to put it all on the line in fights against whoever the UFC puts in front of him.

With an all-action style, the talented fighter always delivers entertainment inside the cage. However, it wasn’t until he rendered Darren Till unconscious in 2019 that he really exploded into superstardom.

The victory on away territory set the wheels in motion for an epic run, including a five-second KO over Ben Askren, followed by a dominant win against Nate Diaz in Madison Square Garden.

However, the warrior would go on to lose his next four UFC fights, before suffering another defeat in his boxing match with his Stockton rival.

Therefore, with the 39-year-old determined to return to the UFC for another roll of the dice, Daniel Cormier has questioned whether he still has what it takes to generate the same hype.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the former two-weight champion said: “From a guy who was a bit of a journeyman to a main event attraction. Him and Kamaru Usman sold a boatload of PPVs. But do you care today, in 2024, to see Jorge Masvidal come back and fight someone?

“He said, ‘Michael Chandler continues to wait for Conor McGregor‘, he goes, ‘I can starch Chandler’, but still, it boils back to the same question: Do you care today to see Jorge Masvidal come back? Can he recreate what he did before, and if he can, do we even care to jump on the ride to find out?

“In my regard, I believe the work that he’s doing outside the octagon with his promotion, seems to be doing well. I’m happy to see that man walk away.”

Jorge Masvidal has his sights set on a date for his UFC comeback

Regardless of Cormier’s concerns, Masvidal claims he’s entered negotiations with the UFC for his return bout. And he has a date in mind.

The natural-born fighter reportedly wants to compete on December 7 at UFC 310 inside the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, he said: "I've been talking to my boy Hunter [Campbell]. Finding out, he's like, 'Let me check this date, see if this dude wants the heat, let me see if that guy wants to get beat up.' First, we'll lock in the date. Lock in that date, and then we'll find the body."
