Dillon Danis lost a $75,000 bet on the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch and took out his frustration with a wild claim on social media.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk treated boxing fans to an all-time great heavyweight matchup on Saturday in Riyadh. The two top heavyweight boxers went toe-to-toe for 12 rounds in a razor-close fight.
After 12 rounds of back-and-forth action, Usyk got the nod over Fury on all three judges’ scorecards. He moved to 2-0 over Fury and remains undefeated in his professional boxing career with the victory.
While Usyk’s performance was a sight to behold, not everyone found Usyk’s win gratifying. Dillon Danis lost a $75,000 bet on the winner of the matchup, after picking Fury to leave the ring victorious.
Danis is no stranger to creating controversy and betting high amounts on combat sports events. After the Usyk vs. Fury result, Danis proceeded to minimize boxing as a sport and claimed that a UFC flyweight would dominate both top heavyweights..
Dillon Danis: Demetrious Johnson strangles Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk
In a recent post to X, Danis discredited Fury and Usyk by sizing them up with a former UFC flyweight champion.
“In reality, what’s the point of boxing when Demetrious Johnson could take down Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk and strangle them in under a minute in a real fight?” Danis posted.
Fans didn’t hold back in scolding Danis’ claim.
“We need to know what you’re smoking bro,” one follower replied.
“What’s the point in MMA when a samurai could just chop them all in half?”
“No he couldn’t, not in under a minute.”
“It’s a completely different sport? That’s like saying ‘what’s the point of basketball? Jon Jones can choke out LeBron in 10 seconds!”
Demetrious Johnson reassured fans following Alexandre Pantoja’s recent UFC callout that he remains firm in his decision to retire. Johnson announced his MMA retirement earlier this year following a trilogy win over Adriano Moraes in ONE.
Johnson did submit someone at a considerable size advantage during a recent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu roll that went viral on social media. But, Danis’ claim that the 5’3″ Johnson would strangle Usyk and Fury without issue seems like a silly proposition.
Dillon Danis’ Fury/Usyk 2 take is the latest in a string of controversies
Danis isn’t a stranger to stirring things up on social media. After a disqualification loss in boxing to Logan Paul, he’s found himself in some legal troubles with Paul’s fiancee after a series of alleged defamatory posts online.
Danis, a once-promising prospect in Bellator, parted ways with the promotion after a 2-0 tenure. His boxing loss to Paul is the only combat sports competition he’s appeared in since 2019.
Danis’ attempt to minimize boxing as a sport wasn’t well received by combat sports fans. While Johnson is arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, the idea that he’d easily strangle two heavyweight boxing greats is far-fetched.
