Dillon Danis announces retirement from fighting

Dillon Danis has retired from fighting.

On Tuesday night, Danis announced his retirement from fighting via social media thirteen months after losing to Logan Paul in a boxing match by disqualification.

Paul easily was winning the fight through the first five rounds of the six-round bout.  He repeatedly landed his jab and was on his way to an unanimous decision. In the final round, Danis tried to take Paul down. Later in the round, Danis tried to guillotine choke Paul. A melee between the teams ensued and Danis was disqualified.

"I'm done fighting.  I'm retired.  Love you all," Danis posted on Twitter.

Danis had recently been released from his Bellator MMA contract and was hoping to sign with the UFC.  Last week he said that he'd rather retire than be offered a fight on Dana White's Contender Series during an appearance on The MMA Hour.

"I'd rather retire, bro (than fight on DWCS)," Danis said on Friday's episode of The MMA Hour. "I'm not Sean O'Malley, I'm bigger than him. I have the most followers than any welterweight in all of MMA… Everybody wants to see me in the UFC," Danis continued. "People think that I just did a boxing match, that my jiu-jitsu isn't on a different level. I'll fight Islam [Makhachev] first fight. I'll fight any of them first fight, I swear. At the end of the day, if I lose, I lose. I could do 155 or 170. [Kevin Holland] is an easy fight. Give me a warmup. This is too easy. He has no takedown defense and I think I'd submit him in the first round."

Maybe he was offered a DWCS contract.  Maybe he's not retiring at all.  Perhaps he's just saying that as a troll, or to garner attention.

Danis had recently worked out with the newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.  He's a former training partner of Conor McGregor.

Danis is 2-0 in his mixed martial arts career, and 0-1 in boxing.
