Thursday racing tips

  • AYR
    1.42: Jorge Alvares 5/2 (1pt)
    4.15: Dancingwithmyself 10/3 (1.5pts)
  • PONTEFRACT
    4.40: Monsieur Fudge 7/2 (1pt)
  • YARMOUTH
    3.50: Redorange 2/1 (2pts)

Jorge Alvares

Catalyse carries a penalty of 7lb for that debut success at Hamilton but after a fairly close finish in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, that shouldn’t stop him from going forward in this field.

He faces a couple of horses with potential based on that penalty but have yet to win in their three or four starts which could be a concern.

Jorge Alvares improved greatly especially on paper when going close at York when 4th of 20, placing amongst some highly rated opposition.

Beating the likes of An Outlaw’s Grace, Ghost Run, Against The Wind, while placing close behind Arizona Blaze and Diligently.

That potentially low mark coupled with the receipt of 7lb could be ideal.

The same can be said for Bowen Island who appears for the first time since being gelded and ran with credit over 7f for the first time at York.

Could go even better with the gelding operation potentially settling him more to focus rather than hanging left as he has done in his last two races.

Ultimately, it will be who will suit the 7f the most and that could go in favour of Jorge Alvares the most for trainer Kevin Ryan under jockey Shane Gray.

Dancingwithmyself

Won twice in succession with plenty to spare despite the rise in the weights and could well be yet to reach her potential.

Won over this distance two starts ago when carrying close to a stone more than 2nd placed Ribkana.

Upped 4lb and upped in trip latest at Ripon and won comfortably again, clearly a top filly in great form and tough to side against.

Monsieur Fudge

Times Edition looked to have her latest contest at Ffos Las secured with a furlong to go but ended up getting chased home and looked very one-paced and looking like she would prefer a battle to the line rather than being left alone out front.

Though, she was also second at Nottingham in another maiden contest and made headway well having looked really well beaten and should probably track the leaders until needed to strike.

With Style was closely following the long time leader Madame Sans Gene, but at many points looked to be well beaten by that filly. But come the final furlong She’s A Warrior came over the top to comfortably beat the field, all the while With Style also surged on well finding more late on.

It will be a tactical affair here but it might not matter with Monsieur Fudge looking to go one better again, having placed 3rd and 2nd so far.

Though his debut was very encouraging as he placed close behind Macduff and Broadway Act.

May have needed the run after 385 days away and should go well here even with the penalty.

Redorange

Went clear of the rest of the field with Nascimento last time out at Salisbury in August.

Beaten well in the end by just over two lengths but that was a very credible effort against a horse now rated 94 having placed close up in the Group 2 Coventry at Royal Ascot.

Having also previous gone close to Age Of Gold on debut, that form works out well and it could mean that Redorange is well weighted to strike now going off just a mark of 79.
