The 2025 Kentucky Derby will see a field of 19 horses going from the starting gate, with the Run for the Roses is set for a post time of 6:57 p.m. on Saturday.
The race is for three-year-old horses, with a total prize pool of $5 million making it the richest prize outside of the Breeder's Cup in American thoroughbred racing. All horses had to qualify via the Road to the Kentucky Derby points system, with the outside horse No. 21 Baeza added only due to scratches in the field.
The race has a big favorite in Journalism, the morning line chalk at 3-1 that might go off even shorter. But the rest of the field hasn't seen a lot of wet tracks or mud, and a consistent rain at Churchill Downs the last two days might make for a wide-open race.
