Last year only one golfer came close to competing with the imperious Scottie Scheffler.

And in one respect that man – Xander Schauffele – even outdid the World No. 1.

Because while Scheffler won nine times in 2024, only one of them was a Major win.

In contrast, Schauffele claimed both the PGA Championship and the Open.

It would have been easy for the Californian to have kept everything as it was after the best campaign of his career.

But the simple fact is that Schauffele wants to maintain the upward curve and, so, as he prepares for the start of the 2025 season in Hawaii at The Sentry he revealed that, although his long game is his clear strength, he has not wasted any time adding Callaway's new Elyte woods to his bag.

"Yeah, yeah," he said when asked what he thought of them. "I have all the new Elyte woods in.

"I've been with Callaway for, shoot, it feels like six or seven years now, and I would say (adding the Elyte woods) was probably the easiest (decision).

"I've been testing the Elyte driver for two months and I literally have the exact same driver that they gave me in Vegas for my first impressions thing that we did for their social media team.

"It's been such an easy, super easy transition, and I really haven't really felt like I thought much about it. It's good to go."

In that First Impressions video he made with Callaway, Schauffele discussed with Johnny Wunder what he likes about the new driver.

"Looks nice," he said. "Sleek, clean look. Change in the crown – now all black."

He hit a shot and said: "Sounds nice and sound is really big for me."

So what is it about these new Elyte drivers that has Callaway so excited?

First up, they have invested big style. A multi-million spend on 3D printing, in fact, that had produced their most advanced Ai face.

The Elyte, Elyte X, Elyte Max Fast and Elyte Triple Diamond are the four models.

Elyte has a single weight at 13g and slots to set up for neutral, draw or fade.

Elyte X also has a 13g weight with neutral and draw options but the key difference is it has high forgiveness and a high launch.

Elyte Max Fast has an adjustable hosel but is lighter than the Elyte X to help moderate swing golfers.

The Elyte Triple Diamond has a smaller 450cc head for lower spin and launch. It's for better golfers looking for the neutral to fade shape.

It is the Triple Diamond that Schauffele will have in play on the Plantation Course at Kapalua.

Callaway has had more wins on tour than any other manufacturer in the last six years so this could be seen as a gamble but Zack Oakley at Callaway sees it differently, believing that Callaway are doing what Schauffele has done in being one of the world's best but seeking to be even better.

So that last half dozen years have been big for Callaway and 2024 was huge for Schauffele.

But both are confident that 2025 will be even better.
