What's in the bag for Tiger Woods on his PGA Tour return?

Tiger Woods is doing double duty as host and player at the Hero World Challenge – and his choice of equipment has everyone on the edge of their seat.

Woods has stumped the experts with apparent custom hybrid golf shoes from an unknown origin.

However, the rest of his gear is far less secret and we can tell you what Woods will have in his bag for the Hero World Challenge.

Woods became the latest TaylorMade professional to test the brand new Qi10 LS driver in competition two weeks after Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood introduced it in Dubai.

When the driver was added to the USGA’s list of conforming drivers, it was confirmed that the sliding weight track on the Qi10 has been redesigned, as has the general shape of the head.

Woods has also switched to the same Graphite Design Tour AD-VF shaft design that has been deployed by Justin Thomas on his ‘long driver’.

Woods still has the TaylorMade SIM Titanium 3-wood and a TaylorMade M3 5-wood in his bag as he did when he last turned out at the 2023 Masters.

Then there’s the gear adjustment that only the sharpest of eyes have noticed and that is a return to lead tape on Woods’ legendary Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS putter. Every year at the Open Championship, gearheads are accustomed to witnessing Woods apply lead tape to the cavity. A 1-inch strip of lead tape, weighing around 2 grams, has been added to the putter to boost total head weight in an attempt to get the ball rolling to the hole, which he has struggled with on slower greens.

"Normally when I've come over here and virtually almost every single Open I've played in, I would put lead tape on my putters to try and get it a little bit heavier and get the ball rolling," Woods said in 2019.

Woods has fully healed from his ankle injury and expects to be a regular on the PGA Tour as well as a Major contender next year. The 47-year-old is pain-free after his subtalar fusion treatment. His game, however, has taken a big knock.

"I think that best scenario would be maybe a tournament a month," Woods told GolfMonthly.

“My game feels rusty, I haven’t played in a while. I had my subtalar fused. I’m excited to compete and play and I’m just as curious as all of you are to see what happens because I haven’t done it in a while.”
