What's in the bag for rising PGA Tour star Max Homa?

Max Homa is one of the fastest-rising stars on the PGA Tour and there is a lot of interest in what equipment he uses.

When looking to go long off the tee Homa uses a Titleist TSR3 driver (9.0°) with a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black 65 TX shaft. He also packs in a Titleist TSR2+ 3-wood with a Fujikura Ventus TR Red 8 X shaft.

In an interesting choice and one that is starting to catch on in the bags of amateurs as well, Homa has recently opted to remove his 5-wood and replace it with a 7-wood Titleist TSR2 (21 degrees) with Fujikura Ventus Red 9 X shaft. Depending on the course he has been known to drop the 5-wood back in, usually with the same loft as the alternate fairway driver.

Homa wasn’t convinced by mallet putters until he tried the Scotty Cameron’s and he currently uses a T-5.5 prototype.

"I had never played a big putter before. I played a Newport my whole life before deciding I was finally going to try a bigger putter," Homa said. "When I went to the bigger Scotty Cameron, it made a world of difference. Putting it in play in a tournament was weird. I was just so used to being that guy with a Newport-style head. But, I'll tell you, you play your first competitive round, and you shoot seven under, or whatever it was. You get used to it real quick."

Homa uses Titleist flagship Vokey wedges with an interesting customisation as he had them deliver his with a letter stamped on the head instead of the loft and grind. He simply has the letters P, G, S, L stamped on the appropriate wedge.

Homa has answered whether he is anti-loft numbers saying: “I just think the letters look cool on there. It's just different."

A practice round and a shot hit with his T-100S 4 iron convinced Homa that he needed to make the switch to using Titleist’s Pro V1.

"I wasn't thinking much about the golf ball really, and then all of a sudden I got to [hole] 8 and I had like 230 way up a hill, front pin, and I hit this big high 4 iron and I stopped it real fast," Homa said according to Golf.com.

"And I looked at Joe and I was like, 'OK.' […] I called J.J. and I said, 'Hey I'm going to use the golf ball.’"
