WATCH: Ugandan golfer makes history at Muthaiga

Ronald Rugumayo made DP World Tour history by being the first Ugandan golfer to make the cut.
He finished with a birdie to record a one-under-par 70 at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.
The putt was difficult, measuring roughly 10 feet, and the right-to-left break necessitated precise judgement down the hill.
Three-quarters of the way in, it looked like the putt would miss on the high side, but as Rugumayo went to his knees in hope rather than expectation, his ball slid into the right edge of the hole.
The spectators let out an almost deafening yell. This meant something, and not just to the player.
After all, this was a watershed event for Ugandan golf.
Never previously has a Ugandan player made the cut on the DP World Tour.
Regardless of how he does this weekend, we will all remember a genuinely amazing DP World Tour moment.

Muthaiga Golf Club
Muthaiga Golf Club is in many respects the pinnacle of Kenya’s unusual combination of historic golf tradition with a contemporary 18-hole championship golf course.
Muthaiga Golf Club, as it prepares to celebrate its long-awaited centenary, has been revived as one of the region’s most prominent and challenging courses.
The driving factor behind this rebirth is a comprehensive course rebuild by famed South African course designer Peter Matkovich, who restored Muthaiga’s status as East Africa’s best course with the fastest greens in 2002.
Water, trees and flowering bushes come into play on several of Muthaiga’s holes (new ponds have recently been introduced at the 15th and 16th) and it’s no surprise that Muthaiga is regarded as one of the most scenic to play in East Africa.
Muthaiga is situated at the edge of the Karura forest in the affluent suburb to the north of Nairobi that bears its name as well.
The original 9-hole layout was established back in 1913, with the full 18-hole course finished in 1926 (this being the date that gives us a 2026 centenary), so the club is one of Kenya's golfing pioneers.
The front nine holes are laid out across the undulating terrain on the other side of Kiambu Road. Meanwhile, the back nine is routed around several man-made lakes that are dotted around the clubhouse.
